HIPAA Compliance Statement 

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act has as one of its general objectives to protect the health information of individuals against access without consent or authorization. Covered entities are required to become HIPAA-compliant. Professional Medical Services, Inc. (PMSI) recognizes that HIPAA compliance is not as simple as just purchasing new HIPAA-compliant systems. Becoming HIPAA-compliant requires combining the security functionality that technology can provide with appropriate policies and procedures.

Professional Medical Services, Inc. (PMSI) agrees that patient and client confidentiality are of utmost importance.  PMSI employees and subcontractors conform to HIPAA regulations by adhering to the following practices:

1. No hard-copy documents will be disposed of without first shredding said documents.
2. PMSI employees and subcontractors will create files and directories on computers in such a way as to prevent unauthorized viewing, deleting, or copying.
3. Said computers will also be configured to prevent unauthorized use, and security devices will be employed to prevent theft of said computers. 
4. No client-related documents shall be sent from a computer without a minimum of 128-bit encryption. 
5. No patient or client names will be stored by PMSI in any form of database for use after termination of a client contract.

HIPAA also mandates that covered entities that maintain or transmit health information electronically establish and maintain appropriate administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to ensure integrity, confidentiality, and availability of the information. Healthcare organizations must use an acceptable encryption method to transmit patient data, and employ authentication or identification procedures.

Professional Medical Services, Inc., employs the following security standards and technologies to ensure secure electronic transmission:

1. Secure Sockets Layer Version 3 (SSL V3)

2. Encryption utilizing industrial-strength encryption (256-bit Rijndael/AES).

3. User ID password-protected authentication procedures.

4. Server-side certificates.
